Our trainers

We’re lucky to have a wealth of talented drivers who are prepared to give training, both at training events and on a private basis. Some are based in Scotland and others are willing to travel here to give training. Here’s more information about them, along with the contact details you need.

Please note that the SCDA does not endorse the services of any particular trainer – each of our members should choose the trainer that best meets their needs.  Third party liability insurance cover is provided at all training events organised by the club or by other BC Affiliated groups such as GB Pod Training. UKCC Level 2

Started driving in late 80’s – Shire horses, both single and pair, for McMullan’s brewery doing pub openings, weddings and county shows.

Started driving horse driving trials in the early 2000’s with Single pony in Novice and Open classes. Driven at BC National Championships.

I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1998, working in practices all over the country. I taught veterinary nursing at the Dick Vet school.  I really enjoy teaching, sharing driving experiences, seeing people learn and improve, and most of all, having fun.

Levels of teaching: Beginner, Novice and Intermediate.

Roger Campbell

Roger began carriage driving in the British Young Drivers programme, becoming British National Champion at every single-pony level before progressing to multiple horse classes. In 2019, he won at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and was named FEI Top Driver of the Year with his Welsh Section A pony team. Internationally, he secured an FEI Silver Medal driving a pony pair at the World Championships in Haras du Pin, France. Then in 2025 he was part of the Silver Medal wining Team GB with Horse Pairs.  The first Horse Pair medal in 28-years – he therefore possesses the expertise to coach drivers at all levels and across all types of turnout.

A combination of Flatwork, Cones and Obstacles are usually available.

Jan de Boer

Jan de Boer is a Dutch international carriage driver with an outstanding record, including Pony Team World Champion titles and wins at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Renowned for his positive and enthusiastic approach, he is a highly respected trainer, passionate about helping combinations achieve their individual goals, from confident pleasure driving to international competition.

Jan has been delivering clinics in Scotland since 2016 in partnership with the Scottish Carriage Driving Association (SCDA), returning regularly to support and develop drivers. He therefore possesses the expertise to coach drivers at all levels and across all types of turnout.
