The Scottish Carriage Driving Association (SCDA) promotes carriage driving in Scotland and in particular the exhilarating and challenging sport of Horse Driving Trials – a unique form of equestrianism in which carriage drivers of all ages and backgrounds can compete together, teamwork and friendship are of paramount importance, and the event stewards and helpers have (almost!) as much fun as the competitors.
Our events throughout the year comprise Outdoor, Indoor and Grass-roots competitions which cater for drivers of all levels and skills, in multiple classes, and for every conceivable type of turn-out, from gorgeous Shetland ponies to magnificent Gelderlanders.
Annual membership runs from January to December and we have two types of members.
- Drivers (Adult or Young) can take part in Outdoor, Indoor and Grass-roots competitions and training events across Scotland throughout the year and are eligible to participate in our Scottish Point League (kindly sponsored by Gee Gee Rugwash). Driver Membership includes third-party liability insurance cover for drivers and their grooms while attending any of our club events or those of other clubs also affiliated to British Carriagedriving.
- Supporters form the backbone of the club and provide an enormous amount of help and assistance to our event organisers in putting on all our events throughout the year. There are opportunities for everybody, from stewarding a marathon obstacle to baking the cakes or leading the dancing!
All members (Drivers and Supporters) receive regular emails and updates throughout the year together with a comprehensive printed Omnibus which contains details of all SCDA events throughout the season along with lots of additional information about our sport. All members also have voting rights at our Annual General Meeting, usually held in February each year, when new Committee members can be voted in.
