Try Driving Day
Sunday 9th July
Seacliff Stables, North Berwick, EH39 5PP

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to try carriage driving?
It's FREE so why not give it a try?
Whatever your ambition, come along to the Try Driving Day,
organised by the Scottish Carriage Driving Association,
and see how it feels to try carriage driving.

Pat Westwood

It is with much sadness that we hear of the death of Pat after an illness which she fought with great determination. Pat was involved for many years with both British Driving Society (West of Scotland in particular, but also other branches throughout Scotland) and with the Scottish Carriage Driving Association, both as a steward and a driver.

We remember Pat driving her beloved grey horse Fig, at many rallies and outings, with her great friend and support, Nicola Farquhar, ever present either on the back step or sitting beside Pat. Pat was also well known as a Ridden Dressage, Showing and Turnout Judge at many shows all over Scotland, where her expertise, commitment and reliability was also much appreciated.

Both SCDA and BDS Scotland owe Pat a huge debt of gratitude for her unstinting support to many events as a steward, with all her duties carried out with efficiency and good humour. Without helpers like Pat our sport of Carriage Driving would not exist, as no competition can run with competitors only.

The funeral is on Thursday 8th June, at 2 p.m. at Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, Dreghorn, Irvine, Ayrshire. KA11 4EF, then at Willowbank Hotel 96 Greenock Rd, Largs KA30 8PG. Dress code:- Bright Colours. Family Flowers only. Retiral Collection for Ayrshire Hospital, where Pat spent her last few weeks.

Heriot fun driving day ‐ Sunday 16th July

at McFie Hall and Airstrip field, Heriot EH38 5YE.

This fun event is for both novice and experienced drivers and their equines and is open to all drivers with single or multiple turnouts.

At there will be a short drive around the field, onto the B709 and Borthwick Hall, of two to three miles. This is for pleasure and to warm up, and is optional.

Class 1 ‐ Style and performance - show the Judge good driving paces and skill including a halt, rein back, serpentine and some lengthened strides.

Class 2 ‐ Six Skills and a Cones course. There will be a harness inspection for safety and good fit by the Judge and then competitors will progress around the field to the six skills. When the skills are completed, the competitor will go on and drive the cone course.

Closing date for entries is Tuesday 4th July.
